At the beaches, a lot is shared. The school pipeline, the kids growing up together since elementary, the rhythm of seasons that swing between busy and quiet. So when a teen starts to struggle, parents often feel it twice — once as a parent, and again because it can feel hard to look for help in a place where so many people know each other.

If that is where you are, you are not alone, and you do not have to go far to find specialized care for your son or daughter. HavenRise Academy is a short drive west on JTB, in Jacksonville’s Deerwood Park.

We are an outpatient mental health program built specifically for adolescents in grades 6 through 12. Because our care is outpatient, your teen stays home, stays in school, and stays tied to the friends and routines that hold them. There are no overnight stays and no sending your child anywhere — just specialized, evidence-based care close enough that it does not have to upend your life or theirs to do its work.

Outpatient care close to home

Families come to us from across Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, and Neptune Beach, and the JTB run west to Deerwood Park is short enough that even a full PHP day stays workable in a weekday rhythm.

We will be honest about timing, since JTB can crawl at rush hour or during peak summer traffic, and we will help you build a schedule that fits around school, work, and the realities of beach life across the seasons.

Our programs for Beaches teens

We offer a full continuum of outpatient care, so the level of support can match what your teen actually needs and ease back as they make progress.

Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is the most structured option, a full day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for teens who need consistent daily support to stabilize and find their footing again. Because that is a full day away from the classroom, we provide on-site academic support so your teen does not fall behind while they focus on getting well.

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) meets several mornings a week in a focused block that blends group and individual work. Holding sessions in the morning is intentional — it leaves the afternoon and evening for school, family, and the activities that matter to your teen. The groups move from connection and goal-setting to emotional awareness, then to practical skills like stress management and communication.

Our Outpatient Program (OP) offers weekly therapy and counseling, a good fit for teens beginning with lighter support or stepping down from PHP or IOP to hold onto their progress. Many teens move between these levels over time, and we help you find the right one at each stage.

Our approach to treating teens

There is no single therapy that fits every teen, so we do not force one. We start by understanding your child, then draw on several evidence based approaches, often in combination, to meet them where they are.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

At the center of what we do is Dialectical Behavior Therapy, one of the most rigorously studied approaches for teens whose emotions run hot and overwhelm them. DBT is built around four practical skill sets a teenager can actually use: making it through distress without making it worse, dialing back big emotions, navigating the people in their life, and staying present rather than spiraling. For a teen who feels like their feelings are in the driver’s seat, those tools become something they can reach for in the moment, not just talk about in a session.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

So much of what a teen carries is hidden inside their own thinking, in stories like “I will never be enough,” “everyone is judging me,” or “things are not going to get better.” Cognitive Behavioral Therapy gives them the tools to notice those stories and rewrite them into something truer and kinder. Working alongside DBT, it gives a teen both a way to understand what they are feeling and the skills to do something about it.

Trauma-informed care

If trauma is part of the picture for your teen, we do not push them to talk about it before they are ready, because doing so can make things worse rather than better. Every person on our team works within a trauma informed framework anchored in safety, trust, and respect for your teen’s sense of control.

When the work calls for it, we use Trauma-Focused CBT, considered the leading treatment for adolescent trauma, alongside somatic work that helps a teen settle back into their body and release what they have been holding.

Therapy alongside peers, not in isolation

In a tight community like the beaches, where everyone seems to know everyone, many teens become expert at looking fine while they fall apart underneath. One of the most powerful moments in treatment is when a teen realizes they are not the only one. Our groups are age specific, grades 6 through 12 and adult free, so teens can put down the face they have been holding, practice new skills in real time, and hear their own experience reflected back by peers who understand it. For a lot of families, this turns out to be the part of the program their teen ends up valuing most.

Family healing alongside your teen

Your teen is not struggling in isolation, and they will not heal in isolation either, so parents are part of the work from the beginning. We are not here to assign fault. We are here to help you and your teen lower the temperature at home and reconnect.

A lot of what looks like willful defiance is actually a skill your son or daughter has not yet learned, and once the whole household speaks the same language, the steadier version of your teen has somewhere to come home to.

What treatment looks like day to day

Most families want to know what they are actually walking into, and we do not blame them. It begins with a conversation and an assessment to help us understand your teen’s situation and suggest the right level of care. From there, a program day combines group work, individual therapy, and hands-on practice with new skills, with PHP filling the school day and IOP held in the mornings.

Parents are not on the outside of any of it — you will sit with the care team regularly to review progress and plan the step down to lighter care as your teen finds steadier ground. Our typical day page gives a fuller picture of the rhythm.

What we help Beaches teens work through

Families reach out when a teen is carrying more than they can manage on their own. We support teens through anxiety, depression, self harm, trauma and PTSD, emotional and behavioral dysregulation, and school refusal. Whether your daughter has gone silent in her own life or your son is angry in ways that no longer feel like the kid you raised, there is a way through, and we will walk it with you.

Signs it may be time to reach out

At the beaches, the seasons do a lot to mask what is really going on with a teenager. A flat spring can read like summer fatigue, and a hard fall semester can blur into the dark months. It may be time for more structured support when the changes stop feeling temporary, including grades sliding, a pulling away from friends and the things your teen used to love, escalating anger or shutdowns at home, missed school or refusal to go, or anything pointing to self-harm.

It is also worth a call if weekly therapy is no longer keeping up. Our is my teen a good fit guide can help you sort it out, and so can a short conversation with our team.

Why Beaches families choose HavenRise

Beaches parents tend to ask careful questions and check references before trusting anyone with their child, and we welcome that. Families choose us for our single-minded focus on adolescents, our blended and evidence-based clinical approach, and the short drive west on JTB that keeps consistent attendance realistic.

Our calm space in Deerwood Park feels nothing like a hospital, and families value the discretion of getting specialized care a little outside the bubble of who-knows-whom at the beaches.

Working with Beaches schools

Stepping away from the classroom raises real questions, especially when your teen is somewhere in the Duncan Fletcher pipeline — Fletcher Middle or Fletcher High — or in one of the smaller school communities like Beachside Community School or the Seabreeze feeder. Families with kids commuting to Bishop Kenny or other private schools are part of this too.

Our team helps coordinate excused absences and works with school counselors to keep your teen’s education on track, with academic and school support built into our PHP day so the return to a full class schedule is as smooth as possible. The goal is for your teen to come back steadier, not behind.

Insurance and getting started

We work with families to make care accessible and will walk you through coverage and options up front, so cost is one less unknown during an already stressful time. The details are on our insurance and financing page. When you are ready, reaching out is simple, and there is no pressure, just a conversation about your teen and what they need.

Questions Beaches parents ask

How far is HavenRise from the beaches?

About 15 to 20 minutes from most beach addresses, a straight run west on JTB to our Deerwood Park location. We will help you plan around rush hour and summer traffic.

How do you coordinate with Duncan Fletcher Middle and Fletcher High?

We work with school counselors to handle excused absences, share what we can about your teen’s care plan within your family’s privacy preferences, and support continuity so your teen can return to a full class schedule when the time is right.

Can my teen keep their sports, surf, or lifeguard schedule during IOP?

Often yes. Because IOP meets in the morning, afternoons stay open for practice, training, and the activities that matter to your teen. We will build a schedule with you that protects what we can.

What about Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach families?

We serve all three beach communities. Whether you are coming from Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, or Jacksonville Beach, the JTB drive is largely the same and the program is the same.

How does scheduling work during the summer at the beaches?

Summer is a busy time at the beaches and a common time for teens to lose their footing, so we keep the same program rhythm year round. We will work around camps, jobs, and family travel as much as possible, and many families use summer as a focused window for treatment.

What is the difference between PHP, IOP, and OP?

PHP is the most structured option, a full day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for teens who need daily structure to stabilize. IOP holds to a few mornings per week and leaves the rest of the day open for school and home. OP is weekly therapy and counseling. Many teens step from one level into the next as they make progress.

Do you only use DBT?

No. DBT is at the heart of our work, but we combine it with CBT, trauma-focused approaches, family therapy, and peer group work, matching the methods to what your teen needs most.

Are the groups only for teens?

Yes. Every group is age specific, grades 6 through 12 and adult free, which makes it easier for teens to be honest and practice new skills with peers who know what it is like.

How private is this in a smaller community?

Privacy is built into how we operate, and care happens outside the beaches’ close social circle, which families often find reassuring. We handle every family’s information with confidentiality, and we are happy to talk through any specific concerns up front.

Do you take our insurance?

We work with many plans and will check your coverage and explain your options up front, before any commitment. Start on our insurance and financing page or just call us.

How soon can we get started?

Often soon. The first step is a conversation, and we move at the pace that fits your family.
